Installation

Mr Kick Home

Here follows a few words on how to install Mr. Kick and make him run.

Software installation

When you have downloaded the installation set, simply run the Setup.exe. You will be prompted for the folder in which you want to place the program files. The default folder is Program Files\MrKick_2. After that the installation program will copy program files to that folder and create shortcuts to Mr. Kick.

You are now ready to use Mr. Kick - at least for data analysis. If it is the first time you installed the program, and you want to use it for data acquisition you must first set up which device(s) to use (see below).

Hardware installation

In order to do data acquisition a National Instruments MIO board must be installed in the machine. The Hardware Requirements tells more about this.

  1. Install the NI-DAQ driver, if it is not already on the machine,
  2. Install E- or M-series MIO-board from National Instruments,
  3. Check Device IDs to relevant boards (in Measurement & Automation Explorer).

Note: To use internal trigger Digital I/O line #7 must be connected to PFI line #7 !!!.

Device setup

In order to acquire data you must do the following after installing the hardware and Mr. Kick for the first time:

  1. Start Mr. Kick.
  2. Choose Devices from the Settings-menu. NI-DAQ must be installed or device setup cannot be initiated!
  3. Set up Mr. Kick to use the relevant board. Also set the number of analog input channels as well as the analog output option to reflect the capabilities of the MIO-board in use.
  4. Restart Mr. Kick (some elements of the program only loads during start-up if a MIO-board is available).

Note: The directory, where Mr. Kick is installed, including the 'bin'-subdirectory and the file HardWare.ini must be write-enabled, ie. it cannot be write protected or read-only!
