The Action Menu

This menu allows you to initiate various types of actions like data acquisition:

1. Acquire
2. Free Running Scope
3. Modules:
• Continuos Acquisition
• Cut Cont. into Sweeps
• SuperImposed View
• Power Spectrum (FFT)

Acquire

Acquire will start acquisition of sweeps, which may be saved to file. It has the same effect as the Acquire buttons on the main panel and the display panel. These buttons may be used to stop data acquisition as well. The menu system will be locked during acquisition.

If acquisition does not start:

1. Ensure you have chosen appropriate trigger settings.
2. If using internal trig, check that Digital I/O line #7 is connected to PFI line #7. This is the most common error on first time use - please check thoroughly!
3. If the green Acquisition LED does not turn on, make sure your acquisition device has been set up. Prerequisites: A data acquisition device (hardware) must have been installed along with the accompanying NI-DAQ driver software.
4. Check the installation procedure to see if you have missed something. Only if this still does not help: Contact your supplier.

Free Running Scope

The scope display will be active during data acquisition. It can also be used as an independent tool, started and stopped via the Free Running Scope item in the Action menu. The scope can not save data to file.

Modules

A module to Mr. Kick is a piece of software that can be loaded to perform a dedicated task. A module is more or less a stand-alone application that is designed to fit into the Mr. Kick environment: It has almost full access to that environment but it will usually not comply with all parts of it, e.g. settings.

One example is the Continuos Acquisition module, which brings continuos data acquisition into Mr. Kick: Settings like sample rate, which channels to sample, etc. is specified via the usual menus and dialogs in Mr. Kick - settings like pre-trig, that has no meaning to continuos acquisition, will simply be ignored. This module even has its own file format, so you cannot read data directly into Mr. Kick.
