Mr. Kick Introduction |
||||||
Mr. Kick is a general scientific data acquisition software. It is primarily intended for the acquisition of physiological data for research in the fields of sensory and neurophysiology, motor control, reflexes, locomotion, ergonomics. It is developed at Center for Sensory-Motor Interaction (SMI), Aalborg University. At SMI Mr. Kick replaces three earlier pieces of software:
The name is inherited from the ancient Mr. Kick for DOS (implemented 1989f), which was solely intended for the research in stretch reflexes. Over the years it was extended far beyond the original intentions, and cluttered with more and more features. In the late summer of 1998 we decided to rebuild this software in a Windows version, based on up-to-date data acquisition technology. Also the major part of the functionality for H-reflex studies found in The Walker should be supported by the new software. Humaniac was initiated in cooperation with NeuroLab at Aarhus University Hospital in 1994. It might have become the successor of both Mr. Kick for DOS and The Walker had it not been for the discontinuation of hardware support from the manufacturer. Most of the ideas in Humaniac are still valid and has been reused in Mr. Kick. I would like to acknowledge the valuable contributions of Holger Kiilerich, electronics engineer at NeuroLab.
